In the Year of Jubilee - George R. Gissing

Strong writing, interesting characters, and a story that kept me reading.  Not exactly inspiring, especially for women, and the ending didn't seem justified (beyond a main character just being a jerk).  I'm not quite sure what Gissing intended or how this fits with his other novels.
